The facilities provided by
Mt Knox are
intended to serve organizations in the metropolitan area where they are
located. This solves a number of problems for small and medium size
organizations. It provides an off-site location for business
continuity, yet is still accessible if required.
Mt Knox
provides it's customers with off-site datacenter facilities for server
colocation, high availability, disaster recovery, and business
continuity. Our datacenters are located near our customers to better
serve their needs and requirements. By having these off-site facilities
close by, physical acccess to the datacenter is easy and only minutes
away.
The cost of establishing an off-site datacenter with many large
providers, can be $5,000/month and up, plus setup fees, service
initiation fees, etc. This is normally far beyond the reach of small
and medium size businesses. Secure datacenter floor space at Mt
Knox begins at $500/month, no setup fees, no service
initiation fees.
We currently have off-site datacenter space available to host all of
your off-site needs, please

information.
Datacenter Outsourcing
Many small and medium size businesses currently dedicate expensive
office space to hosting networking and computer equipment. By
outsourcing the floor space occupied by the computer and networking
equipment to
Mt Knox, the lease
value of the recovered office space will likely pay the cost of
outsourcing. The result of outsourcing to
Mt Knox is
additional office space being made available, and essentially FREE
datacenter floor space.
Also, since Mt
Knox's datacenters are located within the metropolitan area
of the businesses they serve, physical access to the datacenter is easy
and only minutes away.
We currently have datacenter space available for your datacenter
outsourcing needs, please contact
us for more information.

Business Continuity
Through decades of experience,
Mt Knox's
personnel have learned that business continuity is the true goal of all
disaster recovery, high availability and system administration efforts.
The point of all the planning, preparation, adherence to standards,
documentation and expense, is NOT to ensure the computers are running,
the point is ensure the business is running.
The foundation of Business Continuity is based on the following:
- Scope: Definition of those things that are critical to the
continued success of your organization.
- Organization: How your organization is structured including a
definition of responsibilities and interactions between divisions.
- Resources: Availability and depth of people, facilities, equipment, etc.
- Policies: Those things in your organization that are mandatory
activities and methodologies.
- Guidelines: Those things in your organization that are recommended,
but not necessarily mandatory.
- Standards: The result of translating Scope, Organization,
Resources, Policies, and Guidelines into usable algorithms in the IT
environment.
- Procedures: Step-by-step instructions that describe how the
specified Standards are implemented in the IT environment.
We currently have off-site datacenter space available for your
business continuity needs, please

Disaster Recovery
With the implementation of the
Sarbanes/Oxley Act, the ability to perform Disaster Recovery (DR)
became mandatory for public companies. A basic principle of Disaster
Recovery is that datacenters are geographically separated to insure that
if an incident disables one datacenter, other datacenter(s) can take
over the load. This means that High Availability is not enough, DR
requires multiple systems in multiple locations.
Unfortunately, for small businesses, the financial burden of
supporting a disaster recovery environment has, in the past, not been
feasible. However through the use of
Mt Knox
datacenters, the costs associated with supporting a DR environment can
be dramatically reduced, thus enabling small businesses to provide the
protection they need.
We currently have off-site datacenter space available for your
disaster recovery needs, please
contact us for more
information.
High Availability
High Availability (HA) is a must for any organization with critical
applications and services requiring fast recovery. The purpose of HA is
to minimize downtime associated with critical business functions. Using
HA concepts and practices, downtime can be reduced to minutes or
seconds, depending upon your business requirements. Mt
Knox has decades of experience in designing, implementing,
maintaining and supporting these environments and can assist your
organization with all your high availability needs.
Implementation of High Availability practices, concepts,
and software, provides the following protections:
- The masking or elimination of planned or unplanned downtime.
- The elimination of single points of failure (SPOFs).
- Computers
- Disks
- Networks
- Applications
- Business Functions
- etc
- Fault resilience, but not fault tolerance.
- A fault tolerant environment has no service interruption.
- A high availability environment has minimal service interruption.
We currently have off-site datacenter space available for your
high availability needs, please
contact us for more
information.
Business Plan
At Mt Knox,
secure datacenter floor space begins at $500/month, no setup fees, no
service initiation fees, and provides enough space for three (possibly
four) standard 19 inch computer racks. With many of our competitors,
the cost of establishing an off-site datacenter can be $5,000/month and
up, plus setup fees, service initiation fees, etc. This is normally far
beyond the reach of small and medium size businesses.
Mt Knox
mission, goals, and plan
- Provide affordable datacenter floor space for small and medium size
businesses.
- Customer owns all computing equipment, networking equipment,
cabling, racks, power backup, network connections, and telephone
communications they require to support their off-site IT
environment.
- Use small inexpensive strip mall store fronts as datacenters to
reduce cost to customers.
- Provide securable cube to each customer with 220 and/or 110 VAC
power, environmental control, and access to communications and
networking.
- Datacenter floor space rates are based on monthly cube rental.
- Facility access is billed on a per incident basis at a daily
rate.
- Power is metered to each cube and billed according to actual
usage, no fees or surcharges are ever applied.
- Internet connection and telecommunications are billed directly to
customer in the customers name, thereby avoiding any processing charges,
service fees, handling fees, or surcharge.
- Mt Knox
datacenters are "lights out" facilities, physical access to the facility
is by appointment only and with escort.

FAQs
- What are the dimensions of an off-site
rental cube?
-
The cube dimensions vary, the small cubes start at 8ft x 8ft, the larger
cubes are 10ft x 8 ft. If you require more floor space than this, we
can customize one or more cubes to suit your needs.
- What is included in the rental agreement of an
off-site cube?
-
- Locked, secure, monitored facilities
- Locked, secure, private cube for your equipment and infrastructure
- Off-site infrastructure monitoring and notification
- High speed internet connectivity
- Environmental control
- A single 240 VAC power feed
- A single 120 VAC power feed
- 7 x 24 x 365 remote logical access
- 7 x 24 x 365 physical access
- Alarm security
- Video Camera surveillance
- Free setup of your equipment, networking, communication
etc. according to a plan provided by the customer.
- How many standard 19" computer racks am I
allowed to place in a cube?
-
You may place as many racks in a cube as will fit, typically three
standard 19 inch computer racks will fit easily in a small cube, with
plenty of space behind and in front for access. Four or more racks can
fit in a large cube. The only consideration when provisioning your cube
may be amperage. If you need more than 50 amps in a cube, we will need
additional time to provide that capability.
- How much network bandwidth am I allowed
to use on a monthly basis?
-
Mt Knox does not
limit your network bandwidth, mainly because
Mt Knox does not
provide network bandwidth. You, the customer, provide whatever
bandwidth you wish to have for your off-site infrastructure. Therefore,
your network bandwidth can be as much or as little as you wish to
provision. This means you are not bound to an arbitrary bandwidth
limitation and can adjust this on an as-needed basis without
renegotiating your contract with
Mt Knox.
- What sort of power conditioning and
battery backup equipment is provided with an off-site cube
rental?
-
Mt Knox does not
provide battery backup or power conditioning. This is provided by you,
the customer, according to your needs and requirements. This allows you
to have complete control over how much or how little you want to
provision, thus allowing you to control these costs, instead of having
them imposed on you by the datacenter operator.
- If I don't want to rent an entire cube,
can I just send Mt Knox a server and have that hosted in an off-site
facility?
-
Not at this time. It is a part of the
Mt Knox business
plan to provide this service, but at a later date. As we begin
opening additional datacenters in your metropolitan area, we will
begin providing server-hosting and application-hosting services.
