Network Installation Manager (NIM)

The documentation presented here describes the design, configuration, and support of the Network Installation Manager (NIM) Servers implemented by Mt Xia Technical Consulting Group. This documentation is intended to provide guidance for establishing and maintaining NIM servers that support a business continuity IT environment.

Mt Xia offers an intermediate course for network administrators, system administrators, or other individuals who install and maintain AIX code.

Skills Taught

• Understand basic NIM concepts and terminology
• Setup a NIM master
• Perform a base AIX O/S install
• Define and utilize common NIM resources such as bosinst_data, installp_bundle, resolv_conf and scripts
• Understand basic NIM network issues
• Perform a NIM client mksysb backup and restore
• Perform a manual and an automated PUSH install
• Query information within lpp_sources, SPOTs and clients
• Maintain lpp_sources and SPOTs for clients at multiple levels
• Perform ongoing installation updates for lpp_sources, SPOTs and clients
